Swedish Massage

As the most popular type of bodywork performed today, one of the primary goals of the Swedish massage is to relax the entire body. It involves the use of hands, forearms or elbows to manipulate the superficial layers of the muscles. This promotes oxygen and blood circulation, increased ranges of motion, decreased muscle tension, and is a good therapy for depression. The pressure applied during this massage therapy can vary from light to firm. If it’s your first time at the spa or you don’t get massaged often, Swedish massage is the best place to start.

It also reduces chronic pain by increasing blood flow throughout the body. It improves blood pressure by easing stress and tension and rehabilitates injured muscles by facilitating movement of toxins in the muscles and by stretching tight, twisted muscle mass. It promotes healing and is often used for rehabilitation of sports injuries.

(new) Ashiatsu

(“ashi” meaning foot)
(“atsu” meaning pressure)

This massage is a western modality based upon ancient forms of Asian therapeutic treatments. Utilizing parallel bars overhead for balance and leverage, the therapist uses her body weight to apply pressure directed through her bare feet. Smooth, flowing, gliding, technique on lubricated skin provides an intensely deep, and amazingly relaxing therapeutic massage experience. Clients receive anything from moderate pressure to very deep work without the pain and discomfort that often accompanies the use of a therapist’s thumbs or elbows. This modality has been shown to be especially effective in the treatment of low back pain, however, it is also safe and effective on almost all areas where “hands on” techniques are used.

Therapeutic applications of cupping have been documented over several thousand years of clinical experience. Cupping drains toxins, increases blood flow to skin and muscles, loosens adhesions, assists in resolving obstruction, muscle soreness, and pain. The skin may turn red with strong massage cupping, this indicates circulation has been brought to the surface.
